Stenbron Arild, 10:46 pm

The sky has been painted in a lustrous gradient from dark blue above my head seamlessly changing to a lighter blue then yellow and finally pink bordering on orange. Grey clouds sweep across the pink like heavy brush strokes, turning to solid at the horizon. I know there is no land there but the cliffs are there no less. Right below the horizon a gleaming streak of yellowish white from left to right, like the trail of some fast-moving thing. The water is otherwise a greyish blue, ever so slightly tinted in yellow and pink where it mirrors the sky. … Read the rest

My place, 3:10 am

To the left the sky is filled with blue-tinted grey clouds that form a ragged edge where they meet a sky shifting in colors. It starts high up as a washed out yellow that streaks the edges of the cloud rags then changes to orange and later pink closer to the distant hills. The gradient sweeps to the right turning the sky light blue then grey with hazy clouds that seem to be part of the hills. Down below the city still dwells in darkness except for the warm glow of street lights.  A cool breeze gently ruffles the darkened … Read the rest

Train to Göteborg 9:21 pm

There is a soft hum in the background and every once in a while a low squeaking can be heard. The train glides slowly, seemingly without effort, through the green landscape shifting from forest to field and back to forest again under a sky full of light clouds; mist creeps across the fields and to my right the sun is setting. The coach is short with only a few groups of seats in grey and white with wooden tables in between. The roof is domed like that of an airplane but with big windows stretching upwards. Except for me there … Read the rest

Haggen 7:36 pm

The lake is a mirror painted in a bright sky blue with clouds of silver, turning to a dark green where it meets the billowing line of lush forest on the other side. The  high summer heat is lingering longer than expected and the sun shines hotly on me and my parents. We sit here on the jetty eating Blinij with caviar. Quite possibly my favorite food in the entire world, and eating them right here together with my family is possibly the best way. I glance out over the semi finished sundeck me and my father have been working … Read the rest

Haggen 11:34 pm

The lake surface is perfectly flat and reflects a light blue summer night sky as well as the dark contours of the opposite shore. A ragged line of treetops meeting a slightly yellow band of sky both over and bellow. A boulder, a tall birch tree and some hanging branches frame the picture and on the other side, the faint orange glow of a solitary house. I thought the night out here in the countryside would be quiet but standing here writing these words I start to hear the sounds of the night, a few birds squeaking and a low … Read the rest

The Avenue 4:12 pm

I just high-fived a wild teenager! I was on my bike, passing one of the trucks full of dancing, shouting high-school graduates when one of them (I didn’t even see his face) stretched out his hand and I just couldn’t leave him hanging there so I put up my hand and let the forward speed of my bike make it a high-five. Yes, it is that time of the year again when the city is filled with white dresses, black suits and happy smiles under white hats. Somehow the graduation weeks happen to coincide with the pride festival so the … Read the rest

VM8:an Åre, 11:06 am

I’m right smack dab in the middle of the biggest lift queue I have ever seen. There are people all around me jostling for space; a massive onslaught of snowboards, ski poles, boots and helmets. The late april sun blazes overhead, slowly boiling the people in the queue. I’m hot, there is no space for my right foot and I’m being pushed and shoved from all sides. It is  uncomfortable in oh so many ways, and yet I bear with it for on the other side awaits one of life’s most worthwhile indulgences.… Read the rest

Utlandagatan 0:33 am

The fog envelopes the city like a heavy blanket and blurs all edges. A short distance away the surrounding buildings disappear in the murk. There is a halo around the moon and around the streetlights and in the closest light droplets can be seen swirling like smoke. The faint swosh of a car comes towards me and I can see the beams of light sweeping the ground in front of it.  Thursday night, no one is out and about except me, everything is dampenedd by the mist. Were it not for my infected eye this would actually be very enjoyable … Read the rest

Utlandagatan 5:19 pm

The afternoon sky is a clear baby blue and a happy sun shines down on the denizens of the neighbourhood. I am walking with a brisk step in the rather chilly April air. Residential houses and small restaurants flow passed me as I walk. Even though the fine weather is making me cheerful it is all the same as yesterday and the day before and every other day. Only one thing is worthy of note: all the people sitting at tables out on the curb; just because this is one of the first really sunny spring days. It’s a phenomenon … Read the rest

By the window 11:41 am

Down in the yard between the apartment buildings just outside my flat there is an army of people milling about. Children in brightly colored winter clothes are horsing around like children do, nothing unusual with that. What catches my attention are the grown ups who are standing around, evenly spread out among the playing children like beacons of grayness in a sea of sound and color. Each person is holding some sort of shovel, feverishly hacking away at the layer of ice and snow on the ground. They are trying to clear the snow with hand tools while nature, being … Read the rest
