My wife and son are sleeping and my brain is kind of fuzzy from the lack of sleep of a red-eye flight. Our hotel won’t be ready for a couple of hours, so I turn off the main road, cross a rickety looking bridge and end up on this islet that’s barley visible on the map. There is something about islands, or rather something about the intersection of land and water that is so personified by islands, that captures the human eye. Post cards from all over the world are full of that special magic that is a beach, a harbour or a cliff leading down to the ocean. The air feels fresh as I walk out on deck and the sun warms my face and glitters off the calm ocean surface. In the relatively low temperature and chilly wind it quickly gets cold out here but I stay to ward off the drowsiness.
