My appartment 1:44 pm

I’m lying curled up in a little ball on the cold, hard bathroom floor. This position seems to be the only way to keep the nausea at bay; the toilet bowl is only inches away, just in case I need to throw up, all I have to do is raise my head. This is the worst hangover I had since, well I can’t remember the last time I felt this bad, it was probably some time in the beginning of the year so at least six months ago. Here, in a fetal position on the floor, I remember exactly what … Read the rest

Rut på Skäret, 11:46 pm

M.I.A – take your money is pumping in the red and green light behind me. In front of me is compact darkness, no, not completely compact, an uneven line dividing the trees from the sky is discernible in the distance. The cold night air embraces me with chilly claws but I remain standing. The clomping of high healed shoes has joined the beat of the music and amidst all the revelers is a girl in an expensive dress and a guy in a nice suit. They are bobbing up and down with the rest in general ecstasy. The man is … Read the rest

Ullared ~1 pm to ~ 3 pm

DEODORANT! Piles of deodorant, the staff havent even bothered to put them on shelves. All around are all kinds of cosmetics in all colours, types and sizes. A few steps away are rugged outdoor clothes, winter jackets and rain pants and on the other side, underwear and t-shirts. Moving on to lighter clothes, jeans, shirts, sweatshirts and even suits. Simple white signs with text over the clothes racks proclaim the low prices 199, 149 and finally 599 for a suit.

The central aisle is full of people, a slow trickle of shopping carts laden with everything from food to clothes, … Read the rest

Linna Hall 2:39 pm

We are exploring a big, hulking soviet relic of some kind, an immense concrete structure, built in several tiers, wide staircases leading up to and over the roof. A plaque tells us that this is Linna hall, a concert hall, built in the 80,s but the shape makes it look more like a modern fortress. It has been badly run down over the decades, broken tiles and concrete blocks everywhere and many of the sides are now covered in colourful graffiti in contrast to the all-pervading grey of the concrete. The place has been closed down completely, steel gratings barring the way, … Read the rest

The Avenue 4:12 pm

I just high-fived a wild teenager! I was on my bike, passing one of the trucks full of dancing, shouting high-school graduates when one of them (I didn’t even see his face) stretched out his hand and I just couldn’t leave him hanging there so I put up my hand and let the forward speed of my bike make it a high-five. Yes, it is that time of the year again when the city is filled with white dresses, black suits and happy smiles under white hats. Somehow the graduation weeks happen to coincide with the pride festival so the … Read the rest

Utlandagatan 0:33 am

The fog envelopes the city like a heavy blanket and blurs all edges. A short distance away the surrounding buildings disappear in the murk. There is a halo around the moon and around the streetlights and in the closest light droplets can be seen swirling like smoke. The faint swosh of a car comes towards me and I can see the beams of light sweeping the ground in front of it.  Thursday night, no one is out and about except me, everything is dampenedd by the mist. Were it not for my infected eye this would actually be very enjoyable … Read the rest

In my flat 5:50 pm

I look up from my computer for a minute  and notice I need to switch on the light as the room is getting dark, then, as I turn in my chair reaching for the light switch I happen to glance out the window.  From the low position in my chair the boring blocks of flats just outside are hidden by the window frame and all I see are the forest clad hills and the sky. Speckled with houses the hill is surprisingly green despite the spring not having reached my city, and the sky is a light blue with a … Read the rest

Outside my house 7:31 am

The air is cold and the sky is a clear blue. A single streak of cloud, coloured pink by the rising sun, crosses the sky like a streamer. I’m walking home in the early morning, slightly drunk from the night’s escapades, my knee is hurting and I hold a bag full of bottles that I “borrowed” from a party, in one hand. It is a beautiful morning but now it’s time to sleep.… Read the rest

On the way home 2:28 pm

My shoes are leaking, my shoes are leaking, my shoes are leaking, my shoes are leaking, my shoes are leaking. It is around three degrees outside and rain is falling from a milky white sky onto the same boring old buildings as always. The rain is mixing with the slush and melting snow, forming small streams and waterfalls as it flows down hills and stairs. All I can focus on are my cold, wet feet and the sickly squelching sensation that my soaked socks make at each step. Stupid shoes, stop leaking!… Read the rest

Park Lane 00:00 am

Music is pumping out of the speakers and red, blue and green lights are moving around up high, casting coloured cones through the dance floor smoke. The amount of people on the floor is just right so that one can distinguish individuals from the throng yet not so few that it gets embarrassing. A few people are living it up on the stage, dancing wildly and showing everyone else how to move. Out in the crowd there are some men with brash clothes making vivacious, rather feminine dance moves, setting themselves apart from the rest of the male population. Yes, … Read the rest
